Caramel Ho Hos™ Offer New Twist on Old Favorite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 24, 2003) – Regardless of how you say it caramel remains one of America’s favorite flavors. Interstate Bakeries Corporation will introduce a new snack cake that is made by adding a layer of caramel to the ever-famous creme filling of the Hostess Ho Ho®. Caramel Ho Hos will debut on store shelves in the northeast region of the United States beginning March 31.

“It’s a perfect combination,” said Mike Redd, vice president of cake marketing for Interstate Bakeries Corporation. “Caramel makes an ideal complement to the chocolate cake and creme filling.”

Initially, Caramel Ho Hos will be available throughout the northeast in Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Delaware, Vermont, parts of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

The classic Hostess Ho Ho, invented in 1967, is a chocolate cake roll made with moist cake, vanilla creme filling and enrobed in chocolate icing. In addition to Ho Hos, Hostess makes Twinkies®, Hostess Cup Cakes®, Ding Dongs® and several other snack cakes.

Interstate Bakeries Corporation, through its operating subsidiaries, the Interstate Brands Companies, is the nation’s largest wholesale baking company with 63 bread and cake bakeries in strategic markets from coast-to-coast. The Company is headquartered in Kansas City, Mo. For more information, visit Planet Twinkie, at www.twinkies.com.
